WePlay orchestrated the communications for ECA’s General Assembly for the fourth-year running. Gathering in the democratic hub of Athens, Greece, the event was the first in which the organisation had reached over 700 members, representing the interests of professional football clubs in Europe since 2008. The event saw the newest Memorandum of Understanding between ECA and UEFA extended until 2033, focusing on the continual increase of governance and commerciality for both men’s and women’s competition.
Our team on the ground curated exclusive stories and showcased behind-the-scenes updates as they happened, directly communicating to the organisation’s 60,000-plus strong following across their Instagram, X, and LinkedIn accounts.
These content ideas are organised months in advance and prepared alongside ECA’s internal communications team to maximise the narrative of strategic knowledge sharing on the week of the event. ECA has an important responsibility as a B2B entity, taking into consideration the collaborative interests of all member clubs, regardless of size.
With such a profound occasion of events, the team utilised the strategy of communicating the top line of stories, achieving this through the convergence of content across ECA’s social media channels in both static and motion formats. Including interviews with European Football legends Patrick Kluivert, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink & many more.
Community management and assisting with the execution and production of content have also become part of the team’s remit. Examples include the announcement of ECA’s Annual Award results, which reward the best projects and initiatives across the footballing spectrum, as well as documenting the big names that attended such as CBS’s Champion League Today team of Jamie Carragher, Kate Scott, Micah Richards and Thierry Henry.
With a focus on strategic communication, this year’s Assembly demonstrated the importance of keeping members informed and united as we continue to grow European football together.
This places the ECA at the forefront with its members to help achieve their operational goal of successive objectives for each of the 700+ clubs.
