WePlay partnered with Icons Series, a bespoke athlete-led golf tournament at Liberty National Golf Course, to grow digital audiences through wider reach and deeper engagement to drive commercial opportunities.
The Icons Series is a truly unique sporting event which brings together the world’s biggest sporting icons to compete in a series of competitive team match play format events.
We started our journey with Icons Series at the beginning of 2022, just before the tournament came back in its new and improved post-Covid form.
WePlay were appointed to develop and implement an integrated strategy encompassing in-tournament and off-tournament initiatives across owned, earned, and paid media channels.
The objectives of this strategy were to:
- Grow followers and subscribers across platforms
- Grow engagement across channels (META, Twitter, LinkedIn)
- Using social channels and paid campaigns to increase ticket sales and hospitality packages.
The beginning of our campaign involved several key steps to ensure smooth flow and effective implementation.
We started by aligning and verifying accounts across different channels and creating a distribution strategy for various activities such as rebranding, press conferences, player announcements and events.
Pre-tournament, we then developed a paid strategy specifically tailored to event ticket and hospitality sales as well as a strategy to utilise the player existing fans and audiences, whilst ensuing it was aligned with our overall campaign strategy.
By implementing community management, weekly content planning and producing captivating creative material we were able to successfully drive engagement with Icons Series online community.
As the event approached, we implemented our in-tournament specific strategy. The WePlay team led the on-ground social and communications efforts in New Jersey to create reactive content in real-time, based on the tournament outcomes and ensure a smooth and successful execution.
Throughout the campaign, we regularly produced monthly performance reporting which included detailed insights and recommendations to enhance our efforts.
