On April 3rd, the West Indies emphatically beat England by four wickets in ICC World Twenty20 final, in what turned out to be an incredible and memorable encounter.

The excitement did not only take place on the pitch, but also on social media.

Facebook and Twitter launched a few initiatives specifically tailored for the tournament including stickers, Facebook Live videos, temporary Facebook profile picture frames – Used over 17 million times – and trump cards and custom emojis for Twitter.

Facebook received impressive fan engagement, as it saw more than 45 million engaged fans during the four-week competition – 6.1 million during the final match!

On the other hand, Twitter registered over 3 million tweets mentioning the official ‘#WT20’ hashtag, which is almost twice as many as during the last tournament in 2014.

ICC and tournament sponsors also gave fans a chance to be closer to the action. We created for our client MoneyGram, sponsor of the ICC, a varied range of content, from branded content to match collateral, which received a tremendous response.

During the 4 weeks, MoneyGram received over 20 million impressions across Facebook and Twitter with more than 2 million people engaging with our content.
