Step into the WePlay dugout and meet our Players - on their own terms.
Welcome to Episode Six of our ‘Meet the Player’ series. Here, we take a look behind the scenes at the Players that make up the WePlay team, exploring who they are, their stories, and their experiences.
This week, we sat down with People Manager and WePlay social secretary, Samantha Hayden, for a quickfire Q&A.
Q. Take us through your professional experience – where did you start?
It’s been a bit of a journey so far! I first started out at a private clinic in Harley Street, before a U-turn into the world of entertainment PR.
After taking some time out after PR to go traveling, I took a leap into estate agency – a decision that kickstarted 13 years in the industry before I arrived at WePlay.
Q. When did you join WePlay?
Incredibly, it’s coming up to two years, so July 15th, 2019. With all the recent new starters, I’m feeling a bit like an OG!
Q. So, what does your role actually entail? How would you explain it to Mum and Dad?
The impact of the pandemic, coupled with WePlay’s fast growth over the past two years, has allowed me to take on a variety of roles. Currently, I’m working as a People Manager supporting with recruitment, Player onboarding, and looking after our agency culture. A Player Manager you could say!
Q. What do you love most about your job?
The diverse personalities and characters that you meet in a creative industry. At WePlay, no two people are the same and I love the opportunity to learn from people professionally, as well as about their interests outside of work.
Q. What’s been your favourite moment at the agency so far?
Our first all-agency stand-up of 2020. What would normally be a 30-minute session became two and a half hours of the team sharing their stories and their goals for the year ahead.
Q. Which challenges or opportunities are you most excited about in the next 12 months?
Defining the processes and putting the structures in place to support and accelerate the agency’s current growth. It’s exciting to be directly contributing to the overall company vision.
Q. If you had to describe yourself with an emoji, what would it be, and why?
👀 – I see everything and repeat nothing!
Q. Which sporting experience is top of your bucket list?
I’m a huge Anthony Joshua fan. I saw his fight at Wembley vs Vladamir Klitschko, so his (hopefully!) future fight with Tyson Fury is top of my list.
Q. If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
I believe that anything worth having never comes easily. You have to work hard, be patient, and be grateful to get to where you want to be.
