Welcome to Episode Five of our ‘Meet the Player’ series. Here, we take a look behind the scenes at the Players that make up the WePlay team, exploring who they are, their stories, and their experiences.

This week, we sat down with Paid Media Executive and Wolves fanatic, Andrew Irving, for a quickfire Q&A.

Andrew – the floor is yours.

Q. Take us through your professional experience – where did you start?

My first experience in the sports industry was working at a sports management agency called World in Motion back in 2018 – yes, it was named after the 1990 England World Cup tune. 

Since then, I’ve also been part of a creative agency, working closely with Mr “I Love This Game” Patrice Evra to manage his brand’s content and social channels.


Q. When did you join WePlay?

I still consider myself a bit of a newbie, having joined WePlay back in the middle of November 2020. However, with the rate we’re adding new starters, I’m now probably more of an old-timer!


Q. So, what does your role actually entail? How would you explain it to Mum and Dad?

My role is making sure we deliver our client’s product or service to the right people at the right time on the right platform.


Q. What do you love most about your job?

I have two aspects I love about my role at WePlay. The first is the team – the whole company across the board has been so welcoming but a special shout out to the OTT team who don’t mind me constantly interrupting their day to ask those silly questions. Secondly, I get to work across amazing and innovative sports streaming platforms – who wouldn’t love that!?


Q. What’s been your favourite moment at the agency so far?

One highlight that really stands out was in the first couple of weeks when I started to see the ads I created pop up on my social media feeds. It’s a cool moment to see your hard work come to fruition.


Q. How do you think the sports industry has changed since you entered it?

As COVID has flipped the industry upside down, I’ve seen big shifts in how audiences consume digital content. With lockdowns prohibiting fans from live events, we’ve seen the void filled by live streaming platforms which are moving to the forefront of live sport viewership.


Q. Which challenges or opportunities are you most excited about in the next 12 months? 

I simply want to keep learning and developing. I’ve already learned so much in my six months at WePlay so being able to land a role that has so much potential and growth is a truly exciting opportunity.


Q. If you had to describe yourself with an emoji, what would it be, and why?

👍  – It’s my go-to emoji, I use it more than a full stop nowadays…..👍


Q. Which sporting experience is top of your bucket list?

Sporting experiences still seem like a million miles away… I have a long list, but these are my top three: 

  • NFL Super Bowl
  • Watching Wolves win a trophy….the championship does NOT count. 
  • Monaco Grand Prix


Q. If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Don’t sweat the small stuff.
