Looking back at Cage Warriors 78

Earlier this month, the WePlay team travelled to Liverpool’s Echo Arena to run the social media event management and live content production of Cage Warriors 78. The sell out event, billed as ‘The Homecoming’, saw Paddy Pimblett and Chris Fishgold both win World Titles in their respective weight divisions.

The packed out crowd saw Chris Fishgold earn his fifth consecutive first-round win as he made the first defence of his lightweight title.

Paddy Pimblett proved why he is one of Europe’s top featherweight prospects grabbing the vacant featherweight belt in front of his home crowd.  He needed less than two minutes to put away Frenchman, Johnny Frachey, with his fists of fury – knocking his opponent to the mat with his right hand and following up with a flurry of strikes, before the referee called a halt to the action 95 seconds into the first round.

With live commentary, created content, Facebook live videos and ringside photography filling up the Cage Warriors feeds, #CWFC78 quickly became a trending topic.

With the likes of Conor McGregor and Michael Bisping having come up through the ranks of Cage Warriors and TV sponsorship from BT, as well as a deal with UFC Fight Pass, it is clear to see why Cage Warriors is ever growing in popularity.

Next month, Cage Warriors 79 heads back to Newport, and WePlay will be there once again to capture every minute of the action.
